Are we fit for the future?

The 2nd Conference for Translation & Interpreting Professionals ( was held on Saturday, 21st of October 2023 and ORCO had the pleasure to join the speakers panel with a double participation!

“Are we, translators, fit for the future?” This was the opening question at the round table.

So, we talked about “Translation & Interpreting in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLM)”.

The conference was one more great example of partnership between the Industry and Academia getting together to take another step forward in the fields of Translation and Interpreting:

  • What is the current situation in the fields of professional translation and interpreting?

  • What methods, practices, and technology are needed in Translation and Interpreting today?

  • What is the added value and contribution of T&I research in modern professional practice and training in these fields?

  • What is the importance of the rise and integration of AI and technology within the translation and interpreting sectors?

These are some of the “hot” questions that our speakers tried to address with their presentations and they received a big of applause by the audience!

Marisa Lavda, Quality and Training Manager of the EU Department at ORCO, talked about the use of Project-Based Learning (PBL) educational approach in action, by presenting an innovative educational activity in the field of translation, in collaboration with Elpida Loupaki, Associate Professor in DSP Translation & Interpreting at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Despina Pilou, Senior Localization Project Manager at ORCO, held an up-to-date presentation on New Linguistic Artificial Intelligence Capabilities in Trados.

We would like to congratulate the Panhellenic Association of Translators (PEM), the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI) of the Ionian University and the Hellenic Society for Translation Studies who joined forces to co-host such a fruitful conference!

We are looking forward to the next actions and initiatives!
